Canvas hires vice president of analytics and machine learning to enhance text message interview experience

Operations and IT veteran Zach Linder to oversee machine learning and natural language-based analytics for text-based interview platform

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 3, 2017) – Canvas, the first enterprise-grade text-based interviewing platform, announces today the hiring of Zach Linder as vice president of analytics and machine learning. Linder has led analytics and automation initiatives at several high-growth companies, most recently including his role as vice president and head of US operations at Virtusa, previously Apparatus.

Linder will oversee Canvas’ machine learning and analytics functions as the company continues to gain momentum with recruiters nationwide.

“I’ve been fortunate to work alongside Zach for the past several years, and I couldn’t be more excited to have him join the Canvas team,” said Jared Adams, chief operating officer of Canvas. “Zach is already leveraging technologies and methods to reduce recruiter workload, present relevant content and enhance employment brands. In typical form, Zach’s already made us better.”

The Canvas platform enables recruiters to screen more job candidates and market employment brands. Linder is focused on an onslaught of additional new features that enable clients to utilize machine learning and natural language-based analytics to enhance the interview experience and drive human-to-human conversation.

Canvas’ advanced technology creates a space for valuable conversation with high-quality candidates while reducing time to fill open job positions. Machine learning algorithms make recommendations to recruiters as to which questions to ask and information to send next based on the candidate’s answers.

“While Canvas still encourages in-person and phone conversations for second and third round interviews, machine learning plays an important role in streamlining the initial screening process for recruiters,” said Linder. “We’re off to an incredible start, and I’m eager to enhance our automation and machine learning techniques to make the recruiter’s job faster and easier while helping them find high-quality candidates for their clients.”

Among numerous accomplishments at Apparatus and Virtusa, Linder conceived, designed and built an industry-leading automation and business intelligence practice, while presiding over employees located across the world. He was a key player during the 2015 sale of Apparatus to Virtusa for $34.2 million.

Linder’s resume boasts leadership positions at ExactTarget (now Salesforce Marketing Cloud), ChaCha Search, Inc., DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. (a Johnson & Johnson Company), and Outer Communications.

Canvas launched on June 13, 2017. Companies have already used the platform to screen and engage thousands of candidates across a variety of industries and for positions ranging from machinists and welders to software engineers, sales professionals, physical therapists, nurses, and more. Canvas clients span from startups to Fortune 500 companies located in Silicon Valley all the way to the Midwest.

Through Canvas, busy recruiters have a portfolio of interview questions always at their side. The platform enables recruiters to easily send employment brand information, such as culture videos, benefits and job descriptions, straight to the candidate’s mobile phone. Canvas also eliminates the need to manually take notes. With conversations and reactions documented in real time, recruiters can easily share interview transcripts and candidate feedback with peers, managers and agency clients. The Canvas transcripts feature is like DVRing an interview, giving managers full visibility into a screen to make better informed decisions.

Canvas is available to organizations and recruiting agencies of all sizes that want to improve their job screening process and maximize recruiter productivity.
