Canvas helps recruiters screen more job candidates, market employment brands to millennials with first text-based interviewing platform

New enterprise-level intelligent interviewing system enables recruiters to better reach today’s booming millennial talent generation

INDIANAPOLIS (June 13, 2017) – Today's millennial workforce is quick to avoid talking on the phone, causing headaches for recruiters who need to screen high volumes of candidates daily. Canvas is launching today with the first enterprise-grade text-based interviewing platform that enables recruiters to screen more job candidates and market employment brands.

Through Canvas, busy recruiters have access to a portfolio of interview questions that can be sent with the touch of a button. Canvas also recommends the right message at the right time for the recruiter. The platform enables recruiters to easily send employment brand information, such as culture videos, benefits and job descriptions, straight to the candidate’s mobile phone. Canvas also eliminates the need to manually take notes. With conversations and reactions documented in real time, recruiters can easily share interview transcripts and candidate feedback with peers, managers and agency clients. The Canvas transcripts feature is like DVRing an interview, giving managers full visibility into a screen to make better informed decisions.

“Canvas is already maximizing efficiency for our recruiters who were previously only able to screen a handful of candidates each day,” said Kirby Cuniffe, president and CEO of Aegis Worldwide, which specializes in manufacturing and engineering job placement. “In our early adoption of Canvas, we're connecting with and screening high volumes of candidates, while increasing our quality of candidate and expediting the hiring process for our clients.”

With 50 million millennials being hired between now and 2025, Canvas is enabling companies to transform their reach and engagement with talent by designing their recruitment strategies in a way that aligns with the communication preferences of today’s workforce.

Candidates receive and answer questions from recruiters via standard text messages, while recruiters have the option to use the Canvas desktop or mobile app version—available on iOS and Android—to facilitate the interviews. Internally, recruiters can rate applicant responses, make recommendations on best job matches and streamline their communication with colleagues.

Companies are already turning to Canvas to interview a range of talent, from welders to engineers to salespersons. Early adopters span from startups to Fortune 500 companies located in Silicon Valley all the way to the Midwest.

“In today’s society, we’re willing to screen a potential spouse with a swipe on an app, but we’re still screening job candidates over the phone,” said Aman Brar, CEO of Canvas. “Recruiters are playing drawn-out games of phone tag with candidates who are willing to respond instantly to a text. Canvas is transforming the interview process to help companies, from financial institutions to tech-based businesses, reach more candidates in a much shorter period of time.”

Prior to founding Canvas alongside Chief Talent Officer Kelly Lavin and Chief Operating Officer Jared Adams, Brar served as president of Apparatus, which sold for $34.2 million to Virtusa in 2015. Joining Brar and Adams on the Canvas board of directors is Tom Linebarger, chairman and CEO of Cummins.

The Canvas talent leadership advisory board boasts an impressive roster, including Bridget Boyle, vice president and site head human resources for Roche Diagnostics; Scott Day, senior vice president of people and culture for OpenTable and former head of talent strategy for Airbnb; Jeff Perkins, founder of Huntbridge and former vice president of human resources at SpaceX; and Todd Richardson, chief administrative officer for Cheetah Digital and former executive vice president of administration for Salesforce.

Launching with $1.7 million in seed funding, Canvas is available today to organizations and recruiting agencies of all sizes that want to improve their job screening process and maximize recruiter productivity. The platform is available through a subscription-based model and is scalable for companies of all sizes and in all industries that are in need of hourly workers or full-time employees from entry level candidates to career professionals.
