They stand for two-thirds of our country's GDP and account for $12 trillion in incomes according to fortune.com. Even having a Fortune 500 company listed on your CV can benefit you greatly in future endeavors.

Over the years, the amount spent by employers on employee benefits has significantly dropped and appears to have hit a baseline. That isn't stopping companies in highly competitive industries nor companies seeking highly sought after candidates from rolling out the red carpet with employee perks and benefits, though.

While most have the common benefits, others are unique and designed to keep morale high or to simply make their employee's lives less stressful. Benefits that virtually every company offers.

  • 401K Plan - A retirement savings plan sponsored by an employer that lets workers save and invest an amount of their paycheck before taxes are taken out. Taxes aren't paid until the money is withdrawn from the account.
  • Car Allowance/Company Car - A company owned car provided for the business and sometimes private use of an employee. Or a company car allowance, also known as ‘cash for car,' is cash paid to the employee in lieu of a company car.
  • College Tuition Reimbursement - Tuition reimbursement is something that many employers offer as a way to pay back employees for education expenses. Those who choose to participate still have to pay out of pocket for the courses they take. When the course is over, the employee can get back some or all of the tuition expenses.
  • Community Serving Program - A philanthropic program that rewards employees for taking the initiative to give back to the community. It usually involves giving paid time off to volunteer for projects and community work that is important to that employee. Sometimes donation matching is included.

  • Dependent Care Spending Accounts - A Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) is a pre-tax benefit account used to pay for eligible dependent care services, such as preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult daycare. It's a smart, simple way to save money while taking care of your loved ones so that you can continue to work.
  • Discounts - Many companies offer significant discounts to their own products. According to Glassdoor, Apple employees can get a 25% discount on an iPod, iPad, or computer each year. Additionally, most Apple software can be purchased at a 50% discount, and AppleCare comes with a 25% discount. After 90 days on the job or every 3 years, employees can choose either $500 off the price of a Mac (excluding the Mini) or $250 off an iPad.

  • Pension Plan - A pension plan is a retirement plan that requires an employer to make contributions into a pool of funds set aside for a worker's future benefit. The pool of funds is invested on the employee's behalf, and the earnings on the investments generate income to the worker upon retirement. Between 1998 and 2015, the number of companies offering a pension plan dropped by 50% according to Towers Watson.

  • 80/20 Rule - The 80/20 rule allows Google employees to dedicate 80% of the time to their primary job and 20% working on passion projects that they believe will help the company.
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance - Metlife offers coverage that pays benefits to employees and their beneficiaries in the case of an accident that causes death or severe injury. Source

  • Affinity Groups - Expedia supports growth and development within the company with employee-driven, company sponsored networking and development opportunities for affinity and diversity groups.
  • Annual flu shots - CVS Health provides annual flu vaccinations at no cost to their employees.
  • Apprenticeship Program - Hewlett Packard Enterprise provides opportunities for students that are enrolled in apprenticeship programs in association with their university.

  • Dining Discounts - Nestle and other companies offer discounts of up to 90% at thousands of dining locations through Perks At Work.
  • Employee Movie Screenings - Working at 21st Century Fox allows you to screen new movies before they are released to the public.
  • Extended Time off To Follow Your Passions - Google‘s leave of absence policies give workers up to one three-month unpaid leave to pursue passions such as working with non-profits, political campaigns, and other community-oriented projects.
  • Facebook Ads for Employees - Each Facebook employee gets $250 a month to spend on Facebook ads that can be used for themselves or friends and family.
  • Fertility Assistance - IBM and Sysco both have plans to assist in starting a family.

  • Onsite Barbershop - Workers can practically live on the Facebook Campus and never need to leave. They even have a barbershop on site.
  • Productivity vs Hours - Netflix doesn't track how many hours employees work and places its focus on productivity and result, and it works.
  • Shoe Repair - 21st Century Fox has a place for employees to get their shoes repaired when needed.
  • Travel Concierge - Traveling for ExxonMobil? You will have your very own Travel Concierge to handle everything.
  • Spouse Death Benefits - When the employee passes away their spouse receives half their salary for the next ten years. Google has one of the best benefits out there to care for spouses of employees who pass away providing fifty percent of that employee's salary to the surviving spouse for an entire decade.
